NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Strong winds and blasting gusts swept through the Tri-State Area Monday night, sending debris flying from buildings and endangering people below.
Debris fell around 7:30 p.m. form the 12-story Apthorp Building, a historic condominium building at 79th Street and Broadway, officials said.

In Sunset Park, Brooklyn, plywood went flying of a building at Eighth Avenue and 56th Street. One person was struck and suffered minor injuries, officials said.
The Department of Buildings was dispatched to the scene to secure the site.
As of 11 p.m. hour, gusts reached 31 mph on the West Side Manhattan, and CBS2’s Lonnie Quinn said some areas would likely see 50 mph gusts with the passing system.
A wind advisory was in effect for the entire Tri-State Area until 6 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service warned of isolated power outages, difficulty driving in high-profile vehicles, and tree limbs coming down.
A wind advisory is issued for sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph or gusts of 46 to 57 mph.
The winds will persist through the night and into the morning on Tuesday as temperatures drop. Temperatures are expected to fall to 40 degrees in the city, 39 degrees in White Plains and a sub-freezing 30 degrees in Liberty.
But with the winds still gusting in the 40 mph range, conditions will feel below freezing for everyone, Quinn reported.
